Evaluation: Evaluation Question Three

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

I have leant from both my AS and A2 coursework that the feedback I receive is very important. Feedback I get enables me to make changes that I feel are appropriate, and what my audience would like to see more or less of. Feedback shows me also if I am appealing to my target audience and appealing to what they like in a horror film.

To get my feedback, I used Facebook, Twitter and feedback from Media students in my 6th form. Sadly, many people were not interested in helping me out with feedback as it was too time consuming. However, some of the comments I did receive said:

"I would definitely go and see this film- the suspense you build up to is great"

"I love the voice over, brings something new to the scene"

"Could so tell this was a horror, I love that you've not given too much away, but you give just enough detail"

"For me, there wasn't enough blood and gore"

"Sometimes the story line was a bit unclear.."

As you can see from the feedback, I still have some editing to do for the trailer. On the whole, I think that my trailer grabbed the attention of my audience, however, as these were my friends, they may have been biased towards my work.

With regard to my magazine, I had lots of comments about it, these were some:

"It is well constructed, the feature is clear and obvious to the reader"

"The image was well thought about, dominates the page, showing it's the feature. I'd buy it"

"I don't like the yellow. Doesn't look right"

"Love the price- really good money for a magazine"

"Really like the shots from the feature film- gives a sneak peek into the film!"

"The font and style of the magazine name is really cool- shows immediately it's a movie magazine- great stuff, easy on the eyes"

I really appreciated these comments as they enable me to understand my audience on what they want and like, and what they didn't like.

Feedback from my poster:

"I'd go and see the film- it looks different to anything out right now!"

"Can tell its a horror straight away from killer and the blood- I know it's a horror"

" I feel this film would be good- it doesn't give anything away on the poster, keeps the audience guessing"

"So relevant to people our age"

"I don't like the laptop as the main image"

From my audience feedback, I will make the necessary changes to both my magazine cover and poster.
A limitation of asking friends for feedback is it can lead to biases. With regards to my trailer, I would need to get audience feedback from people who aren't my friends as this can lead to social desirability biases, where the participant gives the feedback that the researcher wants to hear. I need to make sure I am not getting this type of feedback.

Continuously getting audience feedback enables me to shape my products to my audience demands. This is good as it will enable me to sell my products if they are meeting the demands of my audience.

In my planning stages I researched and analysed the horror film trailer for 'Hostel' I needed to research another trailer to ensure I was appealing to my audience so my product will sell. This is why audience feedback is so important.
